IMAP settings for Hosted Exchange mailboxes
From 6:00am AEDT Tuesday 22 November, our Incoming server name has changed to mail.exchange.iinet.net.au.If you are using the old server name exchange.iinet.net.au, Please see Update Outlook settings for POP and IMAP email access.

General IMAP settings
Incoming mail server: mail.exchange.iinet.net.au
Incoming mail server port: 993
Outgoing mail server: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
Outgoing mail server port: 587
Login: Your full email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au)
Password: Your mailbox password.
Secure (SSL) Connection: Enabled (Yes)
SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Mozilla Thunderbird
- Launch Mozilla Thunderbird.
- Click Email under Choose What to Set Up.The Account Wizard will open.
- Fill out the following details:
Your Name: Your name as you'd like it to be shown to your e-mail recipients.
Email Address: Your full email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
Password: Your Password for that email address. - Select Configure manually.
- Enter the following information about your server:
Incoming ServerProtocol: IMAP
Hostname: mail.exchange.iinet.net.au
Port: 993
Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication Method: Normal Password
Username: Your full email address
Outgoing Server
Hostname: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
Port: 587
Connection Security: STARTTLS
Authentication Method: Normal Password
Username: Your full email address - Click Done to finish. Your IMAP email account is now created.
Mac Mail
- Open Mac Mail. If you are presented with an account creation screen immediately, please skip to step 3.
- Click Mail, and select Accounts....
- On the Internet Accounts tab, click the plus sign (+) at the bottom to add a new account. Alternatively, select Add Other Account....
- Select Mail Account.
- Enter your full name, email address and password and click Sign In.
- Fill out the following fields:
Email Address: Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
User Name: Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
Password: Type your password.
Account Type: IMAP
Incoming Mail Server: mail.exchange.iinet.net.au
Outgoing Mail Server: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au - Click Sign In.
- Select the apps you wish to use (Mail and Notes) and then click Done to finish.
Microsoft Office Outlook 2013
- Open Outlook.
- Click File, then Add Account.
- Select the Manual setup or additional server types checkbox at the bottom of the Wizard screen, then click Next.
- Select POP or IMAP, then click Next.
- Enter the following details:
Your Name: Your name as you'd like it to be shown to your e-mail recipients
E-mail Address: Your full email address (e.g john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au)
Account Type: IMAP
Incoming mail server: mail.exchange.iinet.net.au
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
User Name: Your full email address (e.g john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au)
Password: Your email password.
Select Automatically test account settings
Select New Outlook Data file - Click More Settings.
- Select the Outgoing Server tab, then select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox. Click Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
- Move to the Advanced tab. Configure these settings as follows:
Incoming server (POP3): 995
Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS - Click OK to save your changes.
- Click Next and Outlook will test the settings.
- You should get two green ticks. Click Close.
- After seeing the message "You're all set!", click Finish.
Microsoft Office Outlook 2016+
- Open Outlook.
- Click File, then Add Account.
- Enter your email address, then select Advance options and tick Let me set up my account manually.
- Click Connect.
- Select IMAP.
- Enter the following details:
Incoming mail server: mail.exchange.iinet.net.au
Incoming mail port: 993
Encryption method: SSL/TLS
Outgoing mail server: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
Outgoing mail port: 587
Encryption method: STARTTLS - Click Next.
- Tick Save this password in your password list, then select OK.
- After seeing the message "Account successfully added", click Done.
