How to set up Netgear D6400 for nbn FTTP

Please follow the steps below to set up your Netgear D6400.

Important: Before you get started, ensure your modem is running the latest firmware from Netgear. Older firmware may not be compatible.

  1. Ensure your nbn Connection Box is turned on.
  2. Plug an Ethernet cable from the UNI-D 1 port on your nbn Connection Box into the red Internet port on your D6400. If UNI-D 1 doesn't work, try each UNI-D port.

  3. Plug in the power cable and turn your D6400 on using the Power button.

  4. Connect a device to your D6400 via WiFi or Ethernet cable and go to
    or in your browser.
  5. Log in with your Netgear username and password. By default these are:
    Username: admin
    Password: password
  6. On the home screen, click Advanced.
  7. Click Setup.
  8. Click Advanced Setup.
  9. Click WAN Setup.
  10. Select Must use Ethernet WAN from the WAN Preference drop down.
  11. Click Apply.
  12. Click Basic.
  13. Click Internet.
  14. Select Australia from the Country drop down.
  15. Select Other from the ISP drop down.
  16. If your nbn plan was activated before 1 March 2023 or you have nbn Phone included in your service, more settings are needed:
    - Tick the checkbox next to Use VLANID.
    - Enter 2 in the text box next to Use VLANID.
    - Enter 0 (zero) in the Priority text box.
  17. Click Yes under Does your Internet connection require a login?
  18. Select PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) from the Encapsulation drop down.
  19. Enter your iiNet username and password.
  20. Leave the other settings as they are and click Apply.
